The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are programs offered by the government of Canada with the provincial governments. Each provincial government offers different types of streams and eligibility requirements. The Ontario Province has its own PNP program, known as the OINP.

This program provides various opportunities to international students, business owners, and foreign workers to apply for permanent residency in Ontario. In addition, the businesses in Ontario can also hire international workers through the Ontario PNP.

What is PNP Ontario?

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program offers 9 different streams that people can apply for. The PNP Ontario nominates people for permanent residency based on their skills and needs in Ontario’s economy. The Ontario PNP can only provide the nominations.

The program usually undergoes some updates and changes each year. Therefore, the applicants should also read the new modifications made to the program. The OINP program works in partnership with the IRCC.

After nomination, the final decision is made by the immigration agency of the federal government. The nominated people can get permanent residency in Ontario if the applications are verified and approved.

All You Need to Know About Ontario PNP

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program has 9 streams:

  • Foreign Worker Stream 
  • International Student Stream 
  • In-Demand Skills Stream 
  • Masters Graduate Stream 
  • PhD Graduate Stream 
  • Entrepreneur Stream: Foreign entrepreneurs having good business ideas can apply.
  • Human Capital Priorities Stream 
  • Skilled Trades Stream 
  • French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream 

Aside from these, there are also express entry streams. However, the applicants need an Express Entry Profile and notification of interest.

How to apply for Ontario PNP?

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program uses two systems to manage applications – Expression of Interest system and Express Entry system. These intake systems are used to let the program know that someone wishes to be invited. After getting invited, the applicants can submit their applications.

Through the Express Entry System

  • The applications must be submitted within 45 calendar days from the date they received the notification of interest.
  • The notification of interest will tell for which stream someone was invited.
  • Please review the stream requirements before submitting the applications.
  • Before proceeding to fill the application, keep all the necessary documents ready.
  • The documents can be scanned and uploaded with the online application.
  • In case there are some missing documents, the application will be returned, and the fee will be refunded.
  • To fill out the application, go to the website of the Ontario Government and click on Submit the application.
  • Login and create a profile on the e-filing portal. Start filling the application.
  • The fee to submit the application is 1,500 dollars.
  • Please maintain a valid profile on the Express Entry System.
  • In case someone receives an invite for permanent residency from IRCC, and their applications are being processed by the OINP, they have to decide either to – reject the IRCC invite or withdraw the application from OINP.

Through the Expression of Interest System

  • Applicants need to submit their application within 14 calendar days of getting the notification of interest via this system.
  • Review the eligibility requirements of the received draw.
  • To submit the application, visit ontario.ca and find the OINP. Click on Submit an application and login to the ONe-key account.
  • Go to My Applications and open the file number to begin the application.
  • The fee for International Student streams, PhD Graduate and Masters Graduate, is 1,500 dollars.
  • For In-Demand Skills streams and Foreign Worker streams, the fee is 1,500 dollars (offered outside the Greater Toronto) or 2,000 dollars (in the Greater Toronto Area).
  • Refunds will be given only when someone withdraws their application before the processing begins or the application is incomplete.
